Please humor me and say that five times in a row. And after you have done that, tell me that you don’t think they should do something about that name.
It is a hydrating toner and its basic role is to prep the skin for the next step in your routine. It is suited for all skin types.
170 ml (13-22 USD) I really recommend checking different places before buying, since the prizes varies a lot.
This is such a hyped up product and it is NOT a Korean product, but a Japanese one, and it is apparently sold one ever 1,7 second, that alone should give a hint on how popular this product really is. It comes in two versions, one regular and one light. I have the regular one. It is free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colorant, which is perfect for sensitive skin types. You can also buy this as a refill.
There is a huge difference on western toners and Asian toners and they are actually completely different product. (Read about toners here).
What is hyaluronic acid?
It is an acid produced by your body and located in-between your skin cells. When you are younger your skin will have a high level of hyaluronic acid, which basically is a molecule that helps the skin to bind water. When the skin has a high level of hyaluronic acid the skin looks even, bright and elastic. The older you get the harder your body will have to produce this acid, the skin gets dryer and won’t be able to bind as much water and wrinkles starts to be visible. By adding hyaluronic acid in your skincare you will help the skin to increase moisture, improve the skins barrier and elasticity and also serves as an anti-aging ingredient.
Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water, that’s just amazing what this little molecule can do.
My thoughts on Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion
This lotion was one of the first Asian beauty products I ever bought, and I haven’t regretted that for one second. I bought it just because it was such a hyped product so I felt that it just couldn’t go wrong. Before I changed my routine into Korean, and layering products, I had such big problems with my skin, you can read about that here.
When first testing it out I felt that it was a little slimy in consistency but hey, snail slime is great so…let’s test it out. It’s clear in color and just a little thicker than water.
I am so much in love. This product is so good that its almost weird. For a person like me, who had so much problems with my skin (read about that here) this is just magic. About a week after I started to use it, my skin was soft and without dry patches or cracks. I am still using it and will not stop, no, never ever. In the summer I actually only used it once a day, and even skipped some days, when my skin felt moisturized. Now the winter is coming in Sweden and I will start using this twice a day again.
Hyaluronic is such a great product to use and if you are getting older this is just perfect for you and if you have dry skin you really should try this. It has no scent, which I do prefer and I don’t see the need in adding scents to every single product.
Where to put it?
The only problem with this is that it can be hard to know where to put it in you routine. I usually use it as an extra toner, so I put it after my regular toner, but before my serums, because it is so lightweight. There are many different ways to put your products in order. I basically put them depending on their consistency, thinner products in the beginning and thicker in the end. There will absolutely be a post about this later on. According to the manufacturer, you should put it directly after your cleansing, but of course it depends on what other products you are using.
The packaging is not fancy at all, but it serves its purpose and I am not a sucker for cute packaging so its fine by me.
The prize is great for the amount of product you get, and for how long it will last you. You only need a little each time.
How to apply the Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion?
Just pore a little in your hand and dab the product in your face until it leaves a sticky finish, don’t worry it will dry very soon. And you are supposed to slap on more products anyway.
Usually when I travel I don’t take it with me, and every time I regret it.
Why is it making my skin dryer?
Some people experience hyaluronic acid to be drying instead of moisturizing. This is also true. In climates where it’s very dry and cold (winter in many countries) the acid pulls the moisture from your skin instead of taking it from the environment. If there isn’t enough moisture in the air it will pull it from your skin.
So what can you do, if this is what you experience?
- To properly use it you need to apply it when your skin is still damp (so perfect after toner)
- Pat the product into your skin and when it is just a little sticky, add the next step to your routine.
- Then it should be sealed in with another product, sun screen, or a moisturizer.
- Don’t get to exited using all the different kinds of product with hyaluronic acid that you can find. Stick to one and that is enough for your skin.
If you put this product in the beginning of your routine, this will not be a problem for you. If you have oily skin and don’t use extra moisturizer. Just add a sun screen on top and you are good to go.
