What is hyaluronic acid?
It is an acid produced by your body and located in-between your skin cells. When you are younger your skin will have a high level of hyaluronic acid, which basically is a molecule that helps the skin to bind water. When the skin has a high level of hyaluronic acid the skin looks even, bright and elastic. The older you get the harder your body will have to produce this acid, the skin gets dryer and won’t be able to bind as much water and wrinkles starts to be visible. By adding hyaluronic acid in your skincare you will help the skin to increase moisture, improve the skins barrier and elasticity and also serves as an anti-aging ingredient.
Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water, that’s just amazing what this little molecule can do.
My thoughts on Hada Labo Gokujuyn super hyaluronic acid hydrating lotion
This lotion was one of my first Asian skincare products I bought, and I simply bought it due to that it was such a hyped up product. And I really needed to find out what the fuss was all about.
This is my sixth bottle… yup, sixth. I have tried different versions of it and I really cant say that I’ve noticed any difference between them. Still this is a product I repurchase over and over again. There is not often I do repurchase a product so when I do it is really helping my skin.
When a European hears the word lotion thoughts are directly body lotion. But this is far from that. If you are new to Japanese or Korean skincare lotion is more toner/facial water than anything else.
Hada Labo Gokujuyn super hyaluronic acid hydrating lotion is clear and a little slimy in consistency. It has no scent which is a big win for me. When applying it you should apply it on moist skin and then apply the rest of your products without the layer of hyaluronic acid completely dry.
Where to put it?
The only problem with this is that it can be hard to know where to put it in you routine. I usually use it as an extra toner, so I put it after my regular toner, but before my serums, because it is so lightweight. There are many different ways to put your products in order. I basically put them depending on their consistency, thinner products in the beginning and thicker in the end. According to the manufacturer, you should put it directly after your cleansing, but of course it depends on what other products you are using.
The packaging
The packaging is simple and clean looking. You can also buy a refill product which is great. It comes in a plastic bottle with a flip lid.
How to apply the Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion?
Just pore a little in your hand and dab the product in your face until it leaves a sticky finish, don’t worry it will dry very soon. And you are supposed to slap on more products anyway. Don’t wait too long between applying the next layer since this products helps the other products to absorb and penetrate your skin.
Why is it making my skin dryer?
Some people experience hyaluronic acid to be drying instead of moisturizing. This is also true. In climates where it’s very dry and cold (winter in many countries) the acid pulls the moisture from your skin instead of taking it from the environment. If there isn’t enough moisture in the air it will pull it from your skin.
So what can you do, if this is what you experience?
- To properly use it you need to apply it when your skin is still damp (so perfect after toner)
- Pat the product into your skin and when it is just a little sticky, add the next step to your routine.
- Then it should be sealed in with another product, sun screen, or a moisturizer.
- Don’t get too excited using all the different kinds of product with hyaluronic acid that you can find. Stick to one and that is enough for your skin.
If you put this product in the beginning of your routine, this will not be a problem for you. If you have oily skin and don’t use extra moisturizer. Just add a sunscreen on top and you are good to go.
Let me know what your experiences are with the Hada Labo Lotions!
I give this product 7/7
