My thoughts on The Ordinary rose hip seed oil
This is one of those products that can be used in many different ways and the only instructions I could find on their website is to use a few drops ideally at bedtime. But how you use it is more up to you and this differs depending on your skin type and your needs.
My main reason for buying it was to apply over my moisturizer and help lock everything in before going to bed.
I have really dry skin and I am always looking for products that can help my skin keep that moisture in. I did try Vaseline for slugging but I did not really like the feeling of Vaseline on my skin so I decided to try a nice facial oil instead. There are many different oils you can use on your skin, but all skins are different and what works for me might not work for you and vice versa.
Packaging
This one comes in a regular packaging from The Ordinary. It is a glass bottle with a pipette. I do like their packaging and I found them really easy to use. Especially when I am only using a few drops of it each time.
Texture and scent
Well, since this is an oil it is oily. So no surprise there:-). It does has some scent to it but there is no added scent.
Which order to use it
There are so many recommendations out there and so many people telling others that they are doing it wrong. But the only correct answer is that there are several correct ways to use it.
So did I make your life more difficult by stating that?
So it all comes down to the rest of your skincare routine and what other skincare products you are using.
If you are completely new to skincare and don’t know where to start, the easiest way is to look at your moisturizer and really notice how it feels. If you already use a really heavy moisturizer (that contains for example Shea butter or other oil) it makes more sense to apply this oil before that moisturizer.
You can do a simple test on your hand. Apply a little bit of the moisturizer and a little bit of the oil and massage it in. Wait until the oil is absorbed. If your moisturizer isn’t absorb by your skin by the time the oil is, I would apply the oil first. If your moisturizer absorbs first I would then apply the oil on top.
This is not the scientific way to do it, but it is an easy way to start.
My main recommendation is that you do what feel good on your skin and not necessarily what other people tell you is the correct way.
So how do I do it
Well it actually depends on both my skin and the other products I am using. Sometimes I do it before and sometimes after using moisturizer. Sometimes I mix the oil and moisturizer together before applying and sometimes I even add it to my foundation.
How do you use these types of oils?
How did it work for me?
I just love this oil. I think it is amazing for dry skin and I use it in different ways depending on what my skin needs at that specific time.
The Ordinary Rose hip seed oil is lightweight so it absorbs fast into my skin and I don’t need to wait a long time before applying my moisturizer on top (those days or evenings I use it before moisturizer that is).
I don’t use it everyday. Sometimes I don’t use it at all, sometimes once a day and sometimes twice. I do have really dry skin and during winter months my skin cant get enough moisture so then I use this or other oils rather frequently.
Conclusion
This is an oil and there is no correct way of using it to suit every skincare routine out there. I always recommend using it in a way that works for you and the rest of your skincare routine. So try and see if you like it.
I give this product 7/7
