My thoughts on By Terry Baume de Rose Flaconnette
This is one of those product who has really high rating on almost every site I could find it on so my hopes are set high for this.
I received this in a subscription box and my first thought was that it looked more like a lip-gloss than a balm. But I am not judging an outside packaging from its inside.
The packaging is really nice and it really does look and feel like a more expensive product. It has a doe foot applicator which is expected. Since I received this in one of my subscription boxes I only got a smaller version of it. The smaller version has 2.3 g in it and retails for about 20 USD. This is one of By Terrys best selling products. So I really should like it, shouldn’t I?

When reading on By Terrys website about this cult product (according to them) this is a product with multi purposes. It can be used as a lip treatment over night. Simply by adding a thicker layer on your lips. Or it can be used as a cuticle treatment for your nails.
So what is my verdict?
If you are a person that loves the smell of Roses, you will not like what I have to say. I simply cant stand it. To me the smell doesn’t remind me of fresh Roses. More Roses that has been dried and kept for a really long time.
Going down the memory lane
It does remind me of when I was a teenager and received 50 roses from a guy. And I felt the need to dry them and keep them. Probably just to show everybody who came to my home that I was popular or something. One Rose of that size cost about 2 USD. So I really felt special. Swedish people are not used to that kind of attention and I still feel awkward when my husband tries to be romantic and buy me flowers. I am more of a practical woman and prefer something I can use over flowers. A few years ago he actually bought me a hammer instead. Which was so much more appreciated by me (yes I am really practical and we are renovating out home, so the hammer was needed).
I do feel that after keeping all those dried roses my nose started hating that smell. I later ended up suing the guy who gave me them for harassments and bullying (and winning). And winning in Sweden is like winning a million dollar lottery. So I threw out the roses faster than fast. So the hate for rose scent might be really psychological for me.

I do feel that I got lost there for a while, so back to the topic (sorry for that).
By Terry Baume de Rose Flaconnette is really easy to apply, it glides on smoothly. But here comes the but. I still don’t think that this is a balm. I would not use it at a balm at all and I don’t feel that it is super moisturizing on my lips either.
The consistency is a little bit sticky, and the scent is super strong (according to me it smells like molded roses, but that is probably wrong). I am a frequent lip balm user, I have dry skin all over so I love using lip balms everyday. This will not be what I reach for.
When you lick your lips with this product on you get a taste in your mouth that isn’t very pleasant and that taste seems to stay on my lips. So every time I lick my lips I get the taste. So I think you know what I am going for here..
As for using it over night, that is simply not going to happen. Because I cant sleep with that taste in my mouth. And I do feel that I eat more of the product by licking my lips than it penetrates. But that still might be only me since I do lick my lips a lot.
I do have another positive thing to say and that is that it is moisturizing. As for long lasting moisture, I really don’t think so, but the feeling on my lips (when I don’t breath to my nose, sadly the mouth and the nose are too close together sometimes) is nice, but a little sticky.
As for using it for my nail and cuticles, well just no. I wont be doing that since I don’t think it penetrates very well there either.
So I hopes that sums up my thoughts on this product. But I do think that the psychological aspect of the smell of roses is clouding my judgement a bit. So if you can afford this rather expensive product I do recommend you to try it out yourself. But if you don’t like the smell of roses from the beginning I would stay away.
I am too cheap to throw it away, and since I have been using it I cant give it away.. so right now I am thinking of other ways to use a lip balm/gloss.
If you like this product, don’t hate me. It is simply my opinion and my own psychological memories.
Do you have any ideas?
I give this product 0/7
